My little mental health break….

Posted November 7th, 2009 by Emily Rose

Whoever the dumba** was who decided that going back to school full time, on an already full schedule, was a good idea, should be beat. Seriously. WTH was I thinking? I remember school being easy as pie. Haha! That’s funny… it was before I had a life, other than school! Anyways, to prevent a mental health breakdown, my means of coping is using my beloved thursdays, as Dea day. I have no classes on thursdays, and I’m sure to never schedule anything. I had two papers to write, and things to research, but kidlet is more important. (And damn, I miss her so much when I’m at classes, this being away from her so much is killing me!)

Thursday we went to the Albany carousel museum, and used up the only non-rainy time, to enjoy the park behind the museum. We spent over two hours out together, with Galaxy, after running errands. So perfect. I wish every day could be spent with kidlet like that. Darn life, getting in the way of fun, and family!

Lots more…

Since kidlet has so much more energy than me, and wanted to play ’show dog’, I took gaiting pics of her and Galaxy on the stage there at river front.

Dea spotted this resting hornet on a nearby fallen leaf. It was still alive, and flew off a little while later
089

Some powerline holder structures, with a large birds nest on top. Not sure what type of bird, but I assume a hawk since they’re common around here

A goose feather, with dew

Monteith park is beautiful, but stay away from the goose poo ;) This pile is seriously, bigger than Galaxy’s poo!

Galaxy loves the water, up to chest deep

Not exactly sure the point of shaking off IN the water, but hey, that’s dog-logic for ya ;)

A cute flat rock, on some leaves
175

And a something-pede bug Dea pointed out. She’d never seen one before, so we came home and looked them up online, so she could learn more :)

A loon by the dock

And an old broken bone along the shore, likely deer

Dea, concerned over how the animal may have died, with a handful of shells, rocks, and other goodies in the other hand

An interested stump. It looks like an abstract piece of art

Geese… depositors of the poo seen earlier ;) There’s lots of ducks, geese, and other water fowl that hang out at Monteith all year round.
211

Taking a break from admiring the birds, to shoot me a “Fine Mom, here’s your damn smile” look ;)

The pretty yellow remains of some flowers

Dea pointed out that the duck in the middle had a bump on his head, so I took some pictures to try and figure out later what it was…
271
I only had my 50mm lens on me since it was a dreary day, so zooming in, we see it’s floofed up feathers!

Instead of making her carry all her trinkets in her hand, Galaxy allowed Dea to have one of the pretty pink doggy poo bags. Once the rocks, sticks, stones, and freshwater clam, and snail shells were in the bag, Dea noticed that one of the little agates had a smiley face pattern!
313
It reminds me of the worms on Sesame street! Google a picture of Slimey, and you’ll see what I mean!
313

A pretty assortment of fallen leaves. Those brown ones, are what we usually have during fall ;)

A clearly labeled broken bench spotted by Dea on the way to the playground. I think this is the Albany park and recreation department’s way of saying “Seriously, don’t sit here” ;)
Seriously, don't sit there

I asked Dea if she’d snap a couple pictures of Galaxy in the leaves for me
304

Such a pretty girl, and yes, I am biased :) That face is what made me fall for her, and I love how her color looks in those leaves. She reminds me of a tigerseye stone.

That picture also reminds me of why I fell for Cardis in the first place, as while Galaxy is not a show dog, she sure is eye catching, just like my inspiration for falling for the Cardigan breed is breathtaking for me.

Mental health days are the ones I look forward to, even if just simply the time I spend lounging out the couch, covered by a kid, dogs, and cats, sipping tea or cocoa, and watching TV, or coloring. When those times are in abundance, it’s hard to remember to savor them, but man, I miss them now, esp as mornings become a rush, and afternoons I’m so wiped. It’s nice to just be a Mom, and pretend there isn’t homework due, or things going on at work, and just smelling the crisp air, and watching my wonderful, beautiful daughter learn about the world around us.

It’s only saturday, but I’m already not looking forward to monday. Today’s one of those sit in PJs, lounge around drinking coffee, and cocoa as a coastal storm moves east to us. I’ve been running plenty of dog towels, since each time they go out to potty, they messy up 2 towels. Oh, the joys of fall in NW Oregon… rain, rain, rain, and lots, and lots of mud!

That goose looks like it has a bit of a tufted breed in it, maybe tufted Roman? Looks like a lot of toulouse & african in them too(and one embden!) :) LOVE the smiley face rock! Soo cool! And are you sure that’s a loon, I didn’t think they perch at all? Kinda looks like a cormorant to me…I duno. It looked like a VERY good mental health day to me! Looks like you guys had a ton of fun, and took some VERY nice photos! And yeah, I remember goose poop…I used to raise Giant Dewlap Toulouse, and let me tell you…WOW…LOL. School will be over before you know it, and you’ll be better off for it :) Just hang in there! :) *hugs*

I very well COULD be wrong about the ‘loon’ part. Someone at the park once just told me it was a loon, and I’ve never questioned it ;)

The Geese, and ducks at our local parks do often look like domestic crosses, rather than wild-based, so I’m sure they’re escapees, or dumped by people. Esp at this park. I’d not be surprised though, as you can buy these breeds for under $5 at our local feed stores, and they’re popular at easter time…. not many people can eat them, so the idiots likely ‘let them go free’, since you know, domestic animals belong in the wild ;)

    One of these years I’ll have a degree… maybe after I’m 30 ;) haha
